I am a Gamilaroi woman living on Jinibara Country, in Maleny Queensland. I am a granddaughter of the well-known Aboriginal aviator, Len Waters. I honour my Gamilaroi ancestors and the ongoing connection of First Nations people to Country, culture and each other.
I am a storyteller and performing artist who has been passionate about creative expression for more than 20 years and has explored a broad range of creative disciplines. I now draw on my varied creative skills to enhance my storytelling and create vibrant new work.
In my twenties, I studied drama and dance. Physical theatre and ritual theatre were my primary areas of interest and I also busked as a street statue. During my thirties, I became a singer-songwriter and performed at house concerts, markets and cafes. My focus was on poetic storytelling songs.
In recent years, I have combined my varied creative skills to create my unique, theatrical, musical, storybook style of performance poetry . The stories I create are influenced by both my European and Indigenous ancestry.
I have recently completed a Bachelor of Digital Media and Communication. Through this degree, I have explored video as a storytelling medium and have also created animations which feature my poetry and original music compositions. I also work as a media producer for First Nations art organisations and non-profits.
