Rosie Waters is a Gamilaroi woman and poetic storyteller living on Jinibara Country. Rosie’s entertaining and thought-provoking tales speak of personal and cultural healing, and they focus on the experiences of women and First Nations people. Rosie is an emerging poet who has drawn on her many years of performing music, theatre and dance to create her unique theatrical, musical, storybook-style of performance poetry. Her performances have been avidly received by audiences and fellow poets, and she was asked by nationally renowned poet, Irish Joe Lynch, to play support in his theatre show, Twelve of the Best, in 2022.
2019 - PRESENT
In 2019, I began using the lyrics of my songs in creative ways, in videos and animations for my Bachelor of Digital Media and Communication. Soon after, I started sharing my lyrics, in spoken form, at poetry open mic nights and I am now established locally as a spoken word performer .
My performance experiences include:
Highlight: Being asked by Irish Joe Lynch to play support in his show Twelve of the Best and performing poetry in a theatre context.
My first animation which used the lyrics from a verse of my song You Know Me.
At the Maleny playhouse supporting Irish Joe Lynch in his show Twelve of the Best
1998 -2018
After writing songs and playing guitar for my own pleasure for many years, I began performing as a singer-songwriter in 2010. Over time, I specialised in poetic story-songs and began to call myself a singer-storyteller. Now, I sing passages within my poems when I believe it will elevate the experience and I create original soundtracks for dance performances and animations.
My performance experiences include:
Highlight: Performing house concerts to attentive audiences that listened to my lyrical content.
I specialised in story-songs; both originals and covers. Green Grass by Tom Waits was one of my favourite songs to perform.

This is a music video I made for my original story-song Strawberry Wine.
1995 - PRESENT
As a young adult, I became passionate about dance and physical theatre and trained intensely in a wide variety of movement practices such as butoh, improvised theatre, holistic contemporary dance, bellydance, contact improvisation, body-mind centering, yoga and chi-gung. Although movement is now secondary to storytelling in my creative practice, I am now working to integrate movement with poetry.
My performance experiences include:
Highlight: Performing biblical ritual theatre in Brisbane’s Anglican Cathedral, as part of Cathedral's week, under the guidance of Neil Cameron (of Woodford Folk Festival Fire Event fame) in the show Connections, August 1997.
An improvised movement and music project, directed by Rosie Waters, filmed on Jinibara Country. Original soundtrack featuring Ninindi Johnston on vocals, music and production by Rosie Waters and Jeremy Pierce.
Performed at Betwixt and Between Faery Festival's cabaret and feast, November 2019, at Hanging Rock Hall on Githabul Country. Concept and choreographic process by Rosie Waters. Original soundtrack by Rosie Waters and Jeremy Pierce.
