Rosie Waters is a Gamilaroi woman and poetic storyteller living on Jinibara Country. Rosie’s entertaining and thought-provoking tales speak of personal and cultural healing, and they focus on the experiences of women and First Nations people. Rosie is an emerging poet who has drawn on her many years of performing music, theatre and dance to create her unique theatrical, musical, storybook-style of performance poetry. She was a featured poet at the Woodford Folk Festival 2024/25 and she played support for nationally renowned poet, Irish Joe Lynch, in his theatre show, Twelve of the Best, in 2022.
2019 - PRESENT
In 2019, I began using the lyrics of my songs in creative ways, in videos and animations for my Bachelor of Digital Media and Communication. Soon after, I started sharing spoken word at poetry open mic nights before performing my debut set as a performance poet in 2022. I experienced a strong response from audiences and opportunities to perform in events and shows quickly followed.
My performance experiences include:
My first animation, You Know Me, feauturing my poetry, art and music.
At the Maleny playhouse supporting Irish Joe Lynch in his show Twelve of the Best
1998 -2018
After writing songs and playing guitar for my own pleasure for many years, I began performing as a singer-songwriter in 2010. Over time, I specialised in poetic story-songs and began to call myself a singer-storyteller. Now, I use my musical skills and experience to create interdisciplinary works combining spoken word, movement, visual media and music.
My performance experiences include:
I specialised in story-songs; both originals and covers. Green Grass by Tom Waits was one of my favourite songs to perform.

1995 - PRESENT
As a young adult, I became passionate about dance and physical theatre and trained intensely in a wide variety of movement practices such as butoh, improvised theatre, holistic contemporary dance, bellydance, contact improvisation, body-mind centering, yoga and chi-gung. Although movement is now secondary to storytelling in my creative practice, I integrate movement into my interdisciplinary work. Being a movement practitioner also informs my practice and I have been described as, 'dancing the words out of my body.'
My performance experiences include:
An improvised movement and music project, directed by Rosie Waters, filmed on Jinibara Country. Original soundtrack featuring Ninindi Johnston on vocals, music and production by Rosie Waters and Jeremy Pierce.
Performed at Betwixt and Between Faery Festival's cabaret and feast, November 2019, at Hanging Rock Hall on Githabul Country. Concept and choreographic process by Rosie Waters. Original soundtrack by Rosie Waters and Jeremy Pierce.
